Happy weekend!

Have a spectacular weekend, everyone!

I'll be doing this as soon as I get off work today:

I plan on the rest of the weekend being filled with both productivity and relaxation.
I like to mix things up.

New York peeps, stay safe!

Do you know the way to San Jose?

Attention my California friends!

Are any of you familiar with San Jose?
As in, what to see/do/EAT?

I'll be there for a conference in a few weeks and have never visited this particular area of California before. Unfortunately, I'll only have one day [a Sunday] that isn't filled to the brim with conference activities, but I'd like to make the most of it.

Your suggestions are very much appreciated!!

[This will also be my first solo conference, and I'm slightly stressed out. The agenda is intense.]

A weekend dinner surprise

Another birthday was celebrated this weekend, marking the LAST one in August.

I was home in San Antonio to spend time with the parentals [since mom had a birthday last week], and was lucky enough to be able to celebrate with my dear friend, Haritha, as well.

She was completely surprised to see all her friends waiting for her!

The Fab Four, minus Ronnie. So I expertly drew her in.

I wore this dress last weekend, too. No shame.

It was a great night, and it was so nice to be able to spend it with two of my oldest friends :)

Things I'm digging at the moment

Stonyfield yogurt.
It has a completely different texture than Yoplait/Weight Watchers/Dannon. It's creamy and thick and organic! Yums.

I feel like along with kale and green monsters, this is a recent "it" food. Without knowing if I'd like it or not, I made some using a recipe for a salad I found on a friend's blog. It was DELICIOUS. Apparently it's crazy good for you too. That's all well and good, but the main thing here is that it tastes fantastic.

Chinchilly nail polish
Spending $8 on nail polish is a little crazy to me. But then I bought this Essie shade and fell in love. The quality makes it look like I got my nails professionally done, and it didn't chip for a week! Win!

Project Runway Season 9
Everything about Project Runway is fabulous. If I could come back in another life as Heidi Klum, I would. My favorite for this season so far is Anthony.

Things I don't know how to feel about:

Most Eligible Dallas
First of all, I'm not a huge fan of Dallas to begin with. To me, it represents everything about Texas that I don't like. It has its charms, but meh.
This group of Dallas socialites makes me want to strangle something.
HOWEVER, because they are so dysfunctional, spoiled, annoying as hell, and dramatic..I might be sucked in to this against my will.

Trailers that make me cry

I can't wait for this movie to come out.
The trailer made me cry when I saw it before The Help last night.
It's Ingrid that really gets me.
Le sigh.

A great excuse for a fancy dinner

Caroline's birthday festivities did not end with her party.
On her actually birthday, we took advantage of Houston Restaurant Weeks and had an incredible dinner at the very scenic Brenner's.

I think 25 is going to be fabulous for you, Caroline!! :)

Turning a quarter of a century is a good time

As you may have remembered from my August birthdays post, today my best friend, Caroline, turns the big 2-5.
As this is a big deal [because she can rent a car now, duh], we certainly celebrated properly this weekend.
I now present to you the photos that are appropriate enough to post.

Party prep!!

Caroline has a party alter ego...Carrie.

We know how to celebrate birthdays.

My best fraaaans.

Our really sophisticated food. This is clearly not a design/crafty/cuisine blog.

I was really excited after being told there is such thing as animal law. LSAT in my future??

Showing off her moves.

She's curiously strong.

It was a great night.
Carrie had a good time. :)

Happiest of birthdays, lovah!

If I lived in the 60s I would have been a crazed Beatles fan

Do you like The Beatles?

Do you enjoy watching old people drunkenly dance to their music?

Well, check out these guys

They are aptly named, as they are a Beatles cover band.

Check out their website HERE.

Every Thursday night they provide seriously fun entertainment.

I am hereby requesting them for my 25th birthday bash.

Have a funtastic [yes, FUNtastic] weekend, everyone!

I'll be celebrating the birth of the one and only Caroline Brown!

Apparently November is a popular month for gettin' it on...

...because pretty much everyone I know has an August birthday.

I used to do individual birthday posts, but I am far too blog unorganized for that these days.

So here is a little love for those conceived in November!

By the way, I'm choosing to use vintage pictures for entertainment's sake.

Lara. August 6. Senior year of college. Check out my bangs.

Swampy. August 10. Her 21st bday.

Caroline. August 15. A Great Depression themed party our house had in college.

My dear mom. August 17. My Aggie Ring Day.

Julianne. August 18. Spring break trip to New York back in 2008.

Haritha. August 22. This was probably our freshman year of college. I say this because those sweet matching shirts say "Laguna Beach." We were a tad bit obsessed with the show.

Much love to all these wonderful people in my life!
I am quite thankful that your parents felt frisky 24 or 25 or an undiclosed number [mom] of years ago!!

Beach + junk food = a match made in heaven

Would you like to see some super, high quality iPhone pictures from my weekend in Matagorda? The Rebel only made an appearance in very controlled situations [i.e. those that did not contain a boat, sand, or water].

The Ginger's first catch on Saturday. It was just a little croaker fish that got thrown back into the water, but admirable still.

My first [and only] catch of the day, a flounder! It was the first fish that we were able to keep. Girl power.

I fish off boats all the time. I'm pretty much a pro fisherwoman. Sarcasm. Mostly I was trying to get a tan while maybe catching something to look impressive in front of all the testosterone.

My favorite part of a beach weekend...the actual beach.

Sand dunes. This was before our car wouldn't start back up.

What's up, Gulf of Mexico.

Trying to find a flattering pose in a bikini is hard.

Fish have teeth. Did y'all know this? It sure was a surprise to me.

My friend here is showing me how to hold up my Flounder by its gills so I can take a picture with it.

Right before this was taken, I had a look of pure disgust on my face. The fish was still alive, and there I was with my finger all up in its gills. I felt terrible for it. I did not feel terrible for it when it was being cut open and I was poking around in its guts. Sorry, I'm a science nerd/boy sometimes.

Don't get too excited...he did not catch both of these. Just one.

With our catches of the day.

Look at me, I'm a ginger looking pensive in front of a sunset!

Boat. Sunset. Self explanatory.

Now that it's obvious that I spent a good chunk of time this weekend in a bikini, I feel like I should point out all the shameful things I ate. I'm not one of those girls who really obsesses over my daily caloric intake, but this weekend's fare was just downright outrageous and comical. Also, I was with four guys. Guys eat whatever they want without worrying. But it should be pointed out that I ate more than they did. So humor me for a second.

Friday night dinner:
A lukewarm burrito at a small-town diner. Also, a few bites of Aaron's chicken fried steak, as well as some leftover nachos from other boys' plates.

Friday night snack:
A piece of Italian Creme Cake

Saturday breakfast:
A cinnamon roll and bag of doritos [neither of which I have had in at least two years].

Saturday lunch:
One sausage and two hot dogs. Because why the hell not. Also, several margaritas.

Saturday dinner:
Fried shrimp and crab cakes. Oh and a salad! Maybe that balanced things out.

Sunday breakfast:
Piece of cake and a sausage. Because that is obviously a good combination.

Then I got back home and came to my senses.
My stomach punished me that evening.

On the bright side, I will be cooking up a fish that I caught with my own bare hands [fishing pole]!! I'm like a pioneer woman caring for my family of 10 as we make our way across the United States.
Oh, this isn't Oregon Trail? My bad.

I hope you all had an excellent weekend and did not treat your body as a trash receptor for processed foods as I did.
